May is often the biggest First Fridays of the year. It’s going to be a little chilly today compared to past years, but that won’t stop people from hitting the Crossroads and having a great time.

First Fridays features dozens of food trucks, events, and street vendors throughout the area. It’s a blast to just walk around to see what you see.

But for those looking to plan out their evening, here are 7 must-see events at this month’s First Friday:

1. Disabled But Not Really / The Hill KC Open House

If you want to hear a transformational story, you should meet Wes Hamilton. The adaptive athlete behind Disabled But Not Really (DBNR) has partnered with Crossfit Memorial Hill to launch an inclusive gym that accommodates the disabled the community without sacrificing the usual gym atmosphere.

Join DBNR and Crossfit Memorial Hill from 4-7pm for a tour of the space. They will show you around, explain their equipment and programs, and welcome you into the community.

2. Kansas City Spirit Launch Party and Meetup

When: 5-8PM


Join us as we launch the Kansas City Spirit, a new digital publication for KC Creative Culture. Enjoy food, drinks, art, and creatives from around the city making connections and sharing ideas.

3. Live Street Art Painting by Evan Jackson

Crossroads District

18th and Oak

When: Roughly 5-9PM

Evan Jackson is a graffiti and oil painting artist known for his larger than life portraits. He is doing a live street art painting during First Friday at the corner of 18th and Oak. Come watch Evan doing his thing and be sure to swing back afterward to see the finished product.

4. Catch a Wave! Made in KC Event

Aloha! Throw on your best Hawaiian shirt and some sunscreen and come on down to the Crossroads for local goods, local makers, Sandlot Goods Clearance Sale, a DJ, photo booth, drinks from Boulevard Brewing Company (while supplies last) and snacks from Cheesy Street! 6. Touring Taps Beer garden
